Food is a day-to-day need. But trucks break down when they want to. Facilities need expanding. Storage and handling regulations change.
One of the nation's largest regional food banks, Feeding America West Michigan Food Bank (formerly Second Harvest Gleaners Food Bank of West
Michigan) has helped families in need in 40 counties since 1981, reclaiming, processing and distributing tons of good food that would
otherwise go to waste.
The costs of this vital work were largely met by regular gifts, including many small ones from individuals. But when trucks broke down and
freezers overflowed, resources were strained and the flow of food was threatened.
This is why our Food Bank vitally needs an endowment - so that everyday fund-raising can directly support the hands-on reclamation of food.
Managed by the esteemed Grand Rapids Community Foundation, the John Arnold Endowment Fund was established in 2009 to help
maintain our fleet and facilities - so we can focus day-to-day efforts on getting food where it's needed, fast.
Now, even after its strong beginning, the endowment needs to grow - fast. As statewide unemployment continues above 15% - even worse
in parts of West Michigan - the demands on our fleet and warehouses keep growing. Won't you help make sure this vital work
continues uninterrupted?
