The need for emergency food is still growing in West Michigan, due largely to higher-than-average unemployment rates. As the need for food grows, the pressure grows on church food pantries, community relief groups, social service agencies and emergency shelters, too.
About 1,300 of these local organizations rely heavily on Feeding America West Michigan Food Bank for most or all of the food they distribute.
In fact, Feeding America West Michigan is by far the most important and affordable source of food for these agencies, accounting for 67% of the food distributed by local pantries.
Fortunately, they can obtain food from Feeding America West Michigan for approximately 1/10 of its retail value. Thanks to our generous food donors and our lean, efficient organization, we can provide enough food for three meals with every donated dollar. Just $26 can feed a family of four for a week.
